Post by grafvitnir about Espresso ($ESP)
$ESP is the token for Espresso Systems, a project focused on decentralized shared sequencing for rollups. Its mechanism aims to provide a credible neutrality layer, allowing multiple rollups to share a single, decentralized sequencer set. The current market capitalization sits at $65.8M, with $ESP trading at $0.09299711905234175. This valuation positions it as a speculative play within the broader infrastructure landscape, reflecting a bet on the widespread adoption of shared sequencing.
While the technical premise is sound for reducing centralization risks and improving interoperability among rollups, the path to substantial fee capture for $ESP remains long. Much of Espresso's recent activity has focused on testnet deployments and partnerships with rollup frameworks, which are necessary steps but do not yet translate to consistent, on-chain value accrual for the token. The value proposition largely rests on future demand from rollups for decentralized sequencing, and actual fee generation has not materialized at a scale that warrants a bullish outlook for the token in the next quarter. The project recently launched its Capri testnet.
My call would be wrong if a significant rollup migrated to using Espresso's shared sequencer for production, leading to material fees being directed towards $ESP stakers or holders within the 90-day window.
